Pauli congratulates on the birth of his Uhlenbeck's son. He writes about Bhabha's letter on the cascade theory. He writes about a paper by Dirac on quantum electrodynamics (published in: Proc. Roy. Soc.). He writes about the efforts of the authorities to get him back to Switzerland.

Pauli expresses great doubts as to the correctness of Dirac's quantum-electrodynamical approach. He explains that it is possible that the way to describe the interaction of particles with an electromagnetic field could be fundamentally wrong.

Pauli writes about the competition between Hulthén's theory Review of Modern Physics (1945), Vol. 17 and Wentzel's "strong coupling" case as explanation for neutron-proton scattering.

Pauli expresses doubts about analytic continuation of S-matrix. He says that a determination of S is needed.

In this short letter Pauli only wants to tell Bohr that he has not forgotten his 60th birthday on October 7th.

Pauli made some additions to Bhabha's paper for the Bohr Festschrift. He says it is impossible to quantize the Bhabha equation according to Fermi-Dirac statistics without using an indefinite metric in Hilbert-space. Pauli says he will know his future plans better in six months, including the possibility of a visit to the Tata-Institute (India).

Pauli writes that it was an exciting surprise that the Nobel prize was awarded to him this year. The decision whether or not he should go to Stockholm on December 10th was really not easy. Considering all circumstances of the present situation, particularly the possibility of such a trip delaying his naturalization. After having heard that Stern and Rabi postponed their participation to the ceremony until next year, Pauli decided to do the same. His naturalization will presumably be completed in January and it is his plan to start his trip to Europe with his wife shortly after. He has to go to Zürich and would also want to visit Dublin and England.

Pauli thanks him for his congratulations concerning the Nobel ceremony and he reports on the physics meeting in New York at the end of January. Pauli is going on a trip with his wife in four weeks to Europe.
