Pauli acknowledges receipt of Heisenberg's Planck lecture.

Pauli writes about his renouncing the partnership with Heisenberg. He thinks there are mistakes in Heisenberg's integration of his equation. Further, if one attempts to loosen either the causality or the unitarity of the metric, this leads to disastrous results in relativistic theories. His impression is that one has to wait for new physical ideas, because mathematical virtuosity alone cannot lead to the discovery of new laws of nature.

Pauli writes about the hopeless state of quantum field theory at present. He writes about Heisenberg's ideas. He comments on a preprint by Gürsey on the group structure of elementary particles.

Pauli makes preliminary congratulation on Meitner's 80th birthday. He sends her as a present an article on the history of the neutrino. He mentions Bohr's idea of 1930 that energy-law is not valid in Beta-decay.

Pauli replies to Heisenberg's question in his letter of 5 October.
