Heisenberg replies to Pauli's letter. He agrees with him as to the insufficiency of the concept of causality for the explanation of evolution. He also expresses doubts as to whether Pauli's concept of "sinnoller Zufall" can lead to a better biological evolution. The second part of the letter deals with Heisenberg's ideas about a quantized field theory.

The items in this file are mostly concerned with Institute matters and current research problems. The following topics are also discussed in certain letters: parity violation (1957-03-12 and 1957-03-20), Heisenberg's exaggerated propaganda his new theory of elementary particles (1958-03-04), a copy of a letter to Landau from Moscow (1958-03-11) and a circular letter explaining why Pauli withdrew his participation in Heisenberg's publication (see also landau_0339), further comments from Pauli on this to Enz (1958-14-03).

Pauli writes further about biology. He believes, like Bohr, in a logical possibility of biological laws, which aren't contained in today's quantum physics.
