Letter-0918 · Item · 1947/11/22
Parte de Archives of Wolfgang Pauli

Pauli refers to a letter he received from Rabi on the 19th December 1947 (copy attached) about Schwinger's calculations and their experimental verification. He adds some general remarks on divergencies in quantum electrodynamics. He also comments on the space-time conception of Newton and Kepler.

Pauli comments on Fierz's difficulties in treating the problem of the spin-electron in a magnetic field. He makes some remarks concerning Kepler's astrological ideas.

Letter from Pauli to Heisenberg
Letter-0938 · Item · 1948/02/21
Parte de Archives of Wolfgang Pauli

Pauli is glad that Heisenberg will write an article for Dialectica, and that he has been able to visit England. He writes him to read a paper by Lewis, a pupil of Oppenheimer in: Phys. Rev., 15 January 1948.

Letter from Pauli to Einstein
Letter-0945 · Item · 1948/04/21
Parte de Archives of Wolfgang Pauli

Pauli thanks Einstein for his manuscript "Quantum mechanics and reality" printed in Dialectica. He explains the difference between his own attitude to physics and Einstein's. Pauli believes that the description of reality as it is given by quantum mecahnics is complete.

Pauli attached to this letter a copy of a letter he wrote to Einstein, in which Pauli formulates his view on the physical reality and its description by quantum mechanics. Also attached is Einstein's answer to Pauli's letter (copy of the letter Einstein_0010r).

Letter from Pauli to Heisenberg
Letter-0950 · Item · 1948/05/04
Parte de Archives of Wolfgang Pauli

Pauli thanks Heisenberg for the corrections to the Dialectica article. No formalism which takes into account only protons and electrons can be final. He and Heisenberg agree that the masses of elementary particles are not fundamental constants that they will result as eigenvalues from a future theory. But the concept of "universal length" does not seem useful to Pauli.

Pauli writes about the "abyss" which separates observation and comprehension and on the miracle that, in spite of this, scientific cognition is still possible and on Heisenberg's and Weisszäcker's scientific attitude.
