Heisenberg agrees with Pauli's calculations avoiding spin with Bose-statistics. The assumption that a single particle (electron) must be a trivial solution of quantum electrodynamics, should lead to spin with Fermi-statistics. The question is what kind of quantized wave theory will obey the following postulates: the number of particles corresponding to the waves is not necessarily constant, relativistic invariance, a single particle as trivial solution of the equations and energies are always positive.

Heisenberg writes on the treatment of an example according to Neumann's method: the case of an electron in a force field with probably 1/2 for right or left spin. He talks of a application of the result to field theory, of the possibility of representing the state of a system by a matrix depending on a finite number of degrees of freedom, and of some of his doubts about this possibility.
