Peter Schmid was a CERN physicist and who served as Resource Coordinator of the ATLAS Experiment from 1994 to 2001, when he played a key role in coordinating the resources, funding, and international contributions required to build the ATLAS detector, helping to establish the collaboration during its formative years. Schmid was also politically active, serving as president of CERN’s Yuri Orlov Committee.
